Le Violon de Mr Chaplin – a tribute to Charlie Chaplin, this performance presents two works by the great master of silent film: The Vagabond (1916) and The Immigrant (1917), accompanied live by original music for piano and violin, with perfect Chaplin-esque bow synchronization!
It is also a concert of excellence, blending traditional music, virtuosity (Maurice Ravel’s Tzigane), and original compositions. This concert is brought to life with both power and subtlety by two female musicians: Camille Phelep, pianist and composer, and Charlotte Maclet, first violin of the Zaïde Quartet.
Driven by texts from Christian Bobin and Chaplin himself (The Dictator), humanity is at the heart of the matter. The soul of Charlot, in its solitude and purity, is brutally confronted with the rules, laws, and inconsistencies of this world. Harshness, injustice, comedy and absurdity coexist, in a tenderness and emotion that are palpable and terribly relevant.
