Noums Dembele

NOUMS DEMBELE is a musician multi-instrumentalist, performer of Mandingue Music from West Africa. He was born in Djibasso in the North-west of Burkina Faso in West Africa and lives in Warsaw since 2018.

The artist mainly plays Kora since 2009, a typical West African Harp, this instrument is inseparable from the Mandinka tradition. He plays also N’goni as well as Balafon. He comes from a Griot family, that means "Messenger of tradition". The Griot is the person 'responsible for transmitting the oral tradition' such as poetry and music, it's only one for the generation. Noums Dembele is also a poet and singer. Life experiences have taught him that music emits positive vibes that comfort and enchant the participants just like "melodious ecstasies". Noums Dembele is self-taught,he has progressed in the composition of his music both by playing the various traditional instruments and at the level of Mandingo singing.

In 2009, the Culture Crossing Festival invited him to Poland, in Warsaw. In 2010, as part of the "Chopin 5 continents project" Noums Dembele was again invited to Poland where he played with Maria Pomianowska- director of the crossing of culture festival, composer, performer and Music teacher. In 2011, the Warsaw Storytelling Museum "Muzeum Bajek Stories Teller Muzeum" invited him to take part in concerts. In 2015, he was invited to Poland by the cultural festival. Since 2018 Noums Dembele has been developing various collaborations with several musical groups such as "Faso Tamala" ( Mandingue Afro-beat band created by Noums Dembele and Jacek Mazurkiewski ) , "Hizbut Jamm" ( Polish ethnicity created by Raphaël Roginski ) , "Maria Pomianowska and Friends"( multi-cultural band created by Maria Pomianowska ) , KANU ( Duo band created by Noums Dembele and Kasia Kamer {music teacher in Poland}) , "Moribaya" ( Polish group that performs West African traditional music ) , "Trio Batik" (cultural band created by Sebastien Beliah from France, with whom he plays in Poland. He gave concerts in Estonia in 2020 and 2022 at the "Orient & Occident festival". He also took part in the 2022 edition of "Jazz& Literatura" festival.

The objective of the young griot is to share his talent and his knowledge with everyone and to transmit his joy to everyone. Noums Dembele is a composer and performer of West African traditional music. Noums Dembele would like to set up a cooperative promoting craftsmanship in Burkina Faso allowing Burkinabes to make bags and covers for instruments in a sewing workshop. Through music, Noums Dembele wishes to sensitize people around the world in order to transmit a message of joy and peace. His dream is to open a Music Academy in Burkina Faso to transmit to those who wish to Learn to play Kora, Balafon, N'goni and singing.
