La Vistule et la Seine sur Scene

Vistula and the Seine on Stage

As part of the enhanced cultural cooperation planned between Poland and France in 2027, we propose an exceptional concert project highlighting the multidimensional connections between the two musical traditions. The programme brings together masterpieces of French Romanticism and late Modernism with the work of one of the most eminent Polish composers of the 20th century, Grażyna Bacewicz, creating an artistic dialogue that transcends borders and generations.

Musical Programme

The programme is built around three major works, each representing a different facet of chamber music:

  • Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 1 in A major, Op. 13 – Gabriel Fauré

One of the most important works of 19th-century French music, this masterpiece is distinguished by its freshness of invention, formal elegance, and exceptionally lyrical violin writing. It stands as a symbol of the revival of French chamber music.

  • String Quartet No. 4 – Grażyna Bacewicz

A mature, energetic work of refined construction, this quartet reflects the composer’s distinctive musical language. An internationally acclaimed musician and violinist, Bacewicz is today recognised as one of Poland’s most significant contributions to Europe’s musical heritage. Her presence in the programme emphasises the importance of Polish culture in dialogue with Europe’s great artistic traditions.

  • Concerto in D major, Op. 21 – Ernest Chausson

Written for violin, piano and string quartet, this work is one of the most original compositions of French music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its monumental character combines symphonic breadth with the subtlety of chamber music, creating an exceptional meeting point for renowned soloists and a string quartet.
