ART AND WELL-BEING- lectures and workshops on the role of art in health and everyday life

Delfina Dellert

“Art is not an aesthetic addition to reality, but a powerful tool for personal and social change.” — Dellfina Dellert

Why Do We Need Art?

Format: lecture + workshop • 1.5 hours
For whom: for everyone, regardless of age, experience, or artistic ability. Also suitable for companies, cultural institutions, and foundations.

For thousands of years, people have used art to express emotions, build connections, regain balance, and make sense of their experiences. Today, the latest research in neuroscience, psychology, and public health is helping us better understand why it works.

During the session, you will learn how engaging with art affects the body, brain, and human behaviour, and experience simple practices demonstrating that you do not need to be an artist or have any particular artistic skills to benefit from its effects.

Art Microdosing

Format: lecture + workshop • 1.5 hours
For whom: for people who want to consciously use art and creativity as part of their everyday mental health and wellbeing practices.

What would change if we began to treat engagement with art as part of everyday mental health prevention?

Art Microdosing is an original practice based on a simple idea: small creative activities and the conscious experience of beauty can nourish our senses, develop our imagination, and help us express ourselves in everyday life. The aim is to support mental wellbeing and help prevent depression, burnout, and anxiety.

I developed this practice based on years of research into the impact of regular, recreational engagement with art on health and wellbeing, including the cohort studies of Professor Daisy Fancourt at University College London. During the session, you will learn about its four pillars and create your own set of daily micro-practices tailored to your life, needs, and possibilities.

Art on Prescription

Format: lecture • 1.5 hours
For whom: for cultural institutions, local governments, social organisations, and professionals working in culture, public health, and social policy.

While Poland is currently engaged in a lively debate about the role of artists in society, in more than 30 countries around the world, art is already being prescribed as part of healthcare.

How does it work elsewhere, and what can Poland learn from these approaches? During the lecture, we will explore solutions that connect culture, healthcare, and prevention, as well as how cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Culture could generate tangible health and economic benefits for society — estimated at billions of złoty annually — while also creating new employment opportunities for thousands of artists.

Od tysięcy lat ludzie wykorzystują sztukę, by wyrażać emocje, budować więzi, odzyskiwać równowagę i nadawać znaczenie doświadczeniom. Jednak najnowsze badania z obszaru neuronauki, psychologii i zdrowia publicznego pozwalają nam coraz lepiej rozumieć, dlaczego to działa.

Daisy Fancourt z University College London. Podczas spotkania poznasz jej cztery filary i stworzysz własny zestaw codziennych micro praktyk dopasowanych do Twojego życia, potrzeb i możliwości.
